R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me

Last week I was cross-training in another department (another post for another day--once I'm over the trauma.), and another person was at my desk learning my job.

When I use an area that isn't mine, I do my best to implement the "Leave nothing but footprints" rule. So imagine my surprise when I came in Saturday morning to find my world askew-the person who had been at my desk had left everything on their preferences rather than changing them Friday before they left.

Can I just say nothing messes with me more than the feng-shui being off in my work area--especially when I don't know how to fix it? Well the good news is I finally figured it all out--3/4 of the way through my shift. FAIL. Although I love this person I still wanted to smack them while I was trying to figure out how in the hell to get my settings back to how they were...
*sigh* oh well. All's well that ends well I guess.

but you're sick

Nothing irritates me more than people who are sick and REFUSE to stay home. I'm not talking your functioning cold here-we're all guilty of going out with that. I'm talking the sick where you look, sound, emanate your awfulness it makes people uncomfortable simply by being in your presence.

Yeah, one of my co-workers was that way this week and they MAY (or may not-I HOPE!) have infected me. Best part is they didn't have a cold--oh no. It's the FLU. The effing FLU!! Who the HELL comes to work with the FLU!? Especially being in FOOD SERVICE!? OI.

Anyway I'm in that "maybe she is, maybe she isn't stage". You know what I'm talking about. The sore throat, itchy nose, tired and a LITTLE achy, but not so bad you can justify calling off work and spend the day in bed. It's almost as bad as the full blown-"yeah you're sick" stage. This is SO not an ideal time.

Naturally it happens the week I'm supposed to start tech rehearsals for La Mancha. OI. Sick or not I HATE backing out of commitments-especially now because I don't know if I'm really sick or just fighting it off. All day I have had the inner debate-but if I'm NOT sick I need to be there. But if I AM sick I need to not expose the entire cast and crew the week before we open. Luckily I have an AWESOME technical director and friend who is super understanding and all but banned me from the theatre until Saturday's tech rehearsal once I told him my dilemma.

Here's hoping a couple nights of R&R will be enough to stave off the consideration (or lack thereof) of my co-workers...can I just hurt them?

talk to me

Currently (re)reading
I prefer to take my lunches solo. It's not because I'm anti-social. It's because I LOVE to use my lunches to read. Usually I am left alone to fall peacefully into whatever story I'm reading. Lately I have found that I can no longer be left alone to read in peace. I always choose to sit out of everyone's way, yet people will ask to join me and then proceed to start a conversation with me. I try to be polite, but am I obligated to be nice when they were the ones who so rudely interrupted me? I mean, it's OBVIOUS what I'm doing and that they are interrupting that, but why do I always feel like such a tool when I start dropping signals-one word answers, grunts, opening my book mid-sentence, etc.-that I just want to be left alone to read?

What is it that draws people to someone who obviously has no desire to socialize?

does this make me look fat?

I was going to use this as yesterday's wordless wednesday, but it requires explanation.
This is a picture of peanut brittle, homemade salsa (we ate it ALL) and chips, jam, Cheesecake Factory Godiva Cheesecake, and not one but TWO packages of caramel and chocolate dipped pretzel sticks.
These were all obtained in a four-hour time frame from vendors, customers, and brokers yesterday while I was at work.
Farewell to the 10 lbs I lost during "Bye Bye Birdie". My boss thinks it's funny to joke that he pays us by the pound. He'll see how funny it ISN'T when I hand him the bill. >;D
Anyone want to be my gym buddy?

recognition

Anyone who’s been there will agree with me when I say this. Customer Service is HARD. As much as I love my job, this week has been particularly trying and it’s started to wear on me. Today instead of another low I got to experience one of the highs you can only get in Customer Service. Today my co-workers and I received the Heart of Nicco Award for the 4th Quarter.
This is cool-for a few reasons.
One: Andrea and I have only been a team here for five months. That’s right. FIVE.
Two: It’s based entirely on peer nomination and selection.
Three: We were brought in to clean up a mess. The expectations were VERY high, and this shows we have delivered.

Aside from those reasons I’m just so ecstatic because I’m not used to this. I have never worked for a company that recognizes good things like Nicholas. I’m used to having all my hard work go unnoticed while my short comings and failures were magnified and nit-picked. It’s weird to not dread coming to work every day. Aside from the occasional hard day or two I really do love my job. It’s cool.

The bottom line is this: it’s nice to be recognized for a job well done-from the Executive level all the way to my peers.

Figures I looked like crap today-in front of the whole company.

ch-ch-ch-changes

Someone once said that the only thing consistent in life is change. Over the last few months this statement has resonated with me even more. 2010 has just been a year of change for me!!

Well after three-plus months of looking I found a new job! FINALLY-and just in the nick of time as I was informed after I gave my notice my job was going to be phased out at the end of June. (Talk about cutting it close.)

I am now a will call coordinator for Nicholas and Co. Who are they you ask? (Don't worry, I get this question a lot actually.) They are the largest food service distributor in the West. Still don't know who they are? Oh come on. I know you've seen this little guy around town and (hopefully) in your favorite restaurant:

I am now a will-call coordinator. In a nut shell I'm the person you come see when you forget cases on your order, your order isn't big enough to get on a truck, or just because I'm just that cool. I LOVE the company and the people I work with. It's night and day compared to the circle of hell I was in before.

Then when I thought I was done with change I went and made a seemingly rash but actually well-thought out decision. I also said bye-bye to Joe's. The money has been garbage for a while and thanks to the morons at BP it's a matter of time before seafood costs are even more ridiculous, thus making it even harder for people to eat out than it already is, but most importantly I miss having a life that isn't 90% work. So I'm just a one job girl for the next little while, and we'll see how that goes. Although I don't need the extra money and I make enough at Nicholas to live I'm USED to having cash all the time, and so far that is proving to be the hardest pill to swallow of the whole thing.
Also the oddest yet happiest thing of the summer was my little Jenny getting married-now for those of you who don't know (and seriously, WHERE have you been?), long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away I had a fiancee' named Chris and he has a little sister named Jenny. Now back in June 2000 when I met Jenny she was an adorable 12-year old girl. Because it was just her and Chris she allowed me to play "big sister" to her and we became incredibly close. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control we aren't as close as we once were but she will always be my sister and I'm SO HAPPY she found her eternal companion in Zane, but it's so weird to think that my little Jenny is married-I will always see her as my little 12-year old, but she is now a beautiful young woman-you can see for yourself here.
The most important thing that has changed this year is my ATTITUDE. I knew it was bad, but now that I'm no longer in the seventh circle of hell and I'm finished with a particular show that I allowed to give me an ENORMOUS chip on my shoulder Scott never fails to tell me how bad it REALLY was. And that makes me feel bad, but happy. Mostly bad because no one-especially Scott-deserves that-but happy because I can say with a surety he loves me enough to stick through everything with me-the good AND the bad.

is it ever ok to settle?

Ok…just to warn you all-this may be a little bit of a downer. I’ll try to keep it upbeat, but considering the topic I’m not sure how upbeat I can make it.

Growing up all I ever heard from everyone was “don’t settle”. Don’t settle on a job that doesn’t make you happy, a lifestyle you don’t want, or a spouse who isn’t everything you envisioned.
Now that I’m older, I understand more how important it is to NOT settle, but is it ever ok? Don’t we all have things we imagined would turn out differently than they did? Although we’re happy we wonder if had we held out for the better school, the better job, or heaven forbid-the better spouse how much happier we would be? Or do we just grow up and realize life isn’t perfect and sometimes you take what you get?
As most of you know I’m in danger of being another workforce fatality-thanks again economy-and so I’ve been proactively looking for a new job. The longer my hunt drags on the more I’ve found myself thinking, “Well I guess I could take a $2.00 an hour pay cut. I know I’m already underpaid at my current job, but I really need a new one, so I’ll make the best of it.” Or: “I don’t feel too great about this line of work or the people I would be working with, but I guess it can be something I can learn to like.” Notice I said ‘like’ and not ‘love’. Does that worry you as much as that worries me? The fact that we-especially me-let ourselves make decisions out of fear, complacency, or our own feelings of inadequacy kinda scares me. Wait. Not kinda. It REALLY scares me. Even before all of this happened I have been unhappy in my work, but the thought of looking, selling myself to another company, and then starting over-at the bottom of a new totem pole-kept me where I was. Again I was settling.
It’s not just work where I’m seeing it. I dabble in the theatre arts, and although I know I will be rejected more often than not and that it’s not personal I still take it personally. Last night I found myself questioning whether or not to just settle for the ensemble roles because obviously these directors aren’t seeing in me what I see in me so maybe I should just quit putting myself out there to keep being rejected. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing it, or how thick you think your skin is, or how marvelously talented you KNOW you are, rejection still stings. Every time-JUST as much as the first time. I could settle and just go for the ensemble roles. I would be rejected a lot less, but I would be on stage knowing full well that that’s not where I should be. I am a leading lady. I know it, but I’m not getting the reinforcement so now I'm feeling it less and less.
When I was a teenager I had everything all planned out. I was going start dating right at sixteen, and I would never want for a boy to go out with me. It was going to be perfect. Then when I was older-you know, 22 or 23, I was going to meet and marry the perfect man. He would be swashbuckling and do whatever was necessary to make me happy-because my happiness would be all that mattered. We would have the perfect courtship, we would never fight; he would be my Prince Charming. We would have the perfect engagement, the perfect wedding, and after a couple of perfect years of marriage we would finally have our perfect children. Everything would be perfect and I would have my own Hollywood Fairytale ending. Then real life happened. Dating is HARD. I stayed home many a weekend and missed out on many a dance because I wasn't asked. I also went out with boys I didn't want to date because they asked me first and I couldn't be mean. Then I entered my twenties and learned personalities clash. Men are afraid of commitment, no matter how much they love you. My happiness isn't the only thing that matters. I turned 26 and STILL wasn’t married. Then I was 27, 28, 29, and still nothing. I’m now staring down the barrel of my 30th birthday and I still don’t have it together. My life now is NOTHING how my sixteen year old self would have told you it would be. There have been periods in my dating life where I have said to myself, “This isn’t the happy I wanted, but its ok. At least I’m happy, right?” Although I can honestly say I have no regrets and there are only a few things I would do differently given the chance I still have found myself wondering from time to time “Am I settling? I’m happy, but it’s not the happy I thought I would have at sixteen. Should I try for that happy, or should I be realistic?” Is being ‘realistic’ just another way of settling?
Over all I am content with my life. Not completely satisfied-mostly because I’m still a work in progress, but I’m not completely discontent either. There are areas I could improve and make better, but I don’t. Whether it’s fear of my own failure, fear of change, I’m not ready, or the fact I just don’t know how to make it better so I let it be. I realize I am the only one who can make myself happy, but is being content and realistic the same thing as settling? Am I growing up and realizing life never turns out the way you planned? Or am I being a silly girl and over thinking things again? Have YOU ever felt like you were settling? And were you ok with it?

Friday Confessions...

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time again…Friday Confessional. Rather than focus on just one I have a few that have been floating around in my mind as of late.

When I grow up and get married, I'm living alone. (Yes I know it's not proper grammar, but I loved it anyway.)

I love living alone. It’s true. The girl who grew up in a big, noisy family, shared a room with her little sister until she was 22, and has never been alone in her life-thus assumed she could never live alone-LOVES HAVING HER OWN SPACE.
I went from this: (artist's rendition-and turn your head sideways because I can't get it to rotate)

To this: (some were taken on moving day-I promise it looks better now)

See? Everything looks better with pictures hung!
It really is great-no roommates to mesh personalities with, I can come and go as I please, veg out on the couch every night, stock my cupboards with nothing but cereal and Girl Scout Cookies (true story), and leave wet towels on the floor, makeup on the bathroom counter, dirty dishes in the sink-whatever I want goes because it’s MINE.

On the flip-side....

I hate living alone, too.
Sometimes it’s depressing to come home to an empty apartment (there is nothing that makes you more aware of your single status then not having anyone to come home to). There are times where the boredom is so intense I sit there, staring at my phone-thinking about who I could call to break up the monotony and tell about my day-just to have SOME sort of human contact. Some other things that have sucked is getting used to the fact my bedroom window faces a busy road (traffic noises at all hours) AND has the fluorescent lights of the parking lot across the street blaring into my room through the blinds at night (hello black out drapes!). Learning the “settling” noises of a new place all alone in the dead of the night has also been NO FUN. Getting used to paying all the expenses alone is a downer too; as is going to the laundromat, learning how to shop/cook for one, and lugging things to and from your car parked light years away. BUT, all that aside I love knowing that-although it’s tiny-all 525 square feet belongs entirely to me. I don’t care who you are. THAT is pretty damn cool.

I am a firm believer a degree is nothing more than an expensive piece of paper.

Before you gasp and judge and berate me with angry posts, let me explain. With few exceptions-doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc. There is nothing a school can teach me that I can’t learn with good old on the job experience. This has become even MORE apparent to me now that I am once again looking for work (thank you economy for being totally SUCKTASTIC). I have experience in everything-from food service to HR to Accounts Receivable/Payable to Office Administrating to management—you name it, I’ve probably done it. But NOW employers are requiring a BACHELOR’S degree to even be considered. These are ENTRY LEVEL POSITIONS people. Really? Yep. Apparently now you need to have a SPENT $30,000+ on a piece of paper to be qualified enough to MAKE $30,000 a year-because somehow that paper makes you more qualified than me. You would REALLY rather have the snot-nosed brat, fresh out of college, with just their degree in hand, no experience WHATSOEVER-armed only with what they’ve read about in books-to someone who has BEEN in the "trenches" and experienced it head on? Really? That’s like saying you prefer the surgeon fresh out of Medical School with no surgeries under his belt to the 30-year veteran who has performed so many procedures he can do them in his sleep. Makes NO SENSE TO ME. I don’t want to do heart surgery. I just want to do Office Administration.

Donuts can pretty much cure all ills. So do waffles. Especially when they involve these:

And this face:

It's love.

Thanks to Netflix having all five seasons of “Quantum Leap” in the instant cue I have realized not only how much I still LOVE that show but also that I have an oober crush on Scott Bakula. Creepy? Just a little. Why? Because he’s almost DOUBLE my age, old enough to be my father, and a year younger than my MOTHER, yet I just don’t care. I’m convinced the man is like a fine wine. He only gets better with age. Oh! AND he plays the piano and sings! SINGS! Do you know that a good-looking man who sings, acts, plays the piano, and is STRAIGHT is like the Holy Grail of men? It's true. Don't believe me? Have a look:

Circa “Quantum Leap” *sigh*

Today-“Men of a Certain Age” *WOW!*

Maybe it’s because he KINDA resembles my Scott? Hmm…

You be the judge on this one.

How much is enough?

So, as most of you know, I moonlight as a server. Like everyone else, I have felt the crunch of the economy, but too many people are using this as an excuse to tip poorly. So I am taking it upon myself to dispense a little knowledge about the fine art of tipping:

1. Contrary to popular belief, we do NOT make minimum wage. Minimum wage for servers is $2.12 an hour. NOT $5.75 or whatever it is now.

2. We pay a percentage of what we make back to the restaurant in what's called tip-share. This money goes to the Hosts, bussers, and bartenders. We pay this REGARDLESS of whether or not we are tipped appropriately. Plus if the restaurant has a food runner/expediter like we do, the servers are paying someone else in cash every night. Both of these amounts we pay are calculated based on our gross sales-NOT how much we make in tips. So if you stiff your server, chances are they are paying the restaurant for you coming in for dinner.

3. Although people may think otherwise, serving is hard work. You have to constantly be multi-tasking, remembering what your tables have ordered and correctly enter it into the system, when you don't have a food-runner you are running your entrees to your guests, filling drinks, and helping other servers when it is busy. This becomes even more difficult when you have large parties in your section or you have difficult tables who think they are your only guests and keeping their drinks filled, or extra sauces available to them is your only task. Forget about letting you help anyone else.

4. Anything less than 15% is NOT considered a good tip. Actually the standard is being raised to 20%, but you won't be talked bad about in the back for tipping 15%, and if you're a regular at a particular joint, your reputation WILL precede you if you don't tip well. This amount is based on the total check, NOT how nice the restaurant is. I'm in no way saying you should tip a lazy server who gives crappy service, but before you stiff them, take a few of these things into consideration:
A: How busy is the restaurant? How many tables BESIDES you can you see your server helping? Do they seem new or just frazzled?
B: How was the over all visit? Was your server friendly? Did they know the menu and answer your questions thoroughly? Did they seem on top of things? If not, why? Was the restaurant legitimately busy or were they being lazy?
C: How were YOU as a guest? Were you overly demanding or needy? How quickly did you empty your drink? Unless they were hovering over you with another ready, would it have been possible for them to get you another one before you finished the previous one? Were YOU spreading your server thin? Do YOU realize that your server is after all a person, too and incapable of the perfection you demand?
D: What are you upset about? Are they things that your server had control over or not? If the kitchen is backed up and it takes longer to get your food out, or if the food quality was HORRIBLE? Is that REALLY something your server can control? Same with the bar drinks and the politeness and efficiency of the host staff. Can your server CONTROL those things? If not, you shouldn't punish THEM for things they can't control. Instead let the manager on duty know what's going on so the situation can be rectified.

You should base your tipping on how you answered these questions. You need to remember that although we are trained professionals :) we are still human and capable of error. If you can see that we are busy and spread really thin, cut us some slack if you have to ask to get another coke, or if we forget to bring you a box right away.

5. If you can't afford to eat out AND leave a tip, DON'T go out. PERIOD. People who have never served don't understand how important tips are to servers. We are busting our asses for you, it's your job to pay for the services provided. PERIOD. If you don't want to pay a tip, there are plenty of places that you can go where tips aren't expected. Having a huge family or spending $60 on your crab dinners and another $30 on drinks DOES NOT mean you can stiff us. Just plan on the tip as part of your check. Unless you have actually worked a 60-minute wait dinner rush on a Saturday night with your four-table section filled-one of them with a party of twelve (Let's do the math-four seats per table times three tables is 12 plus another 12 is TWENTY FOUR PEOPLE) do you understand how hard it can be. We have TWENTY-FOUR PEOPLE we are trying to help all at the same time. Have YOU ever had to help 24 people at the same time? How hard is it to help two or even three people at once, let alone two dozen?

6. If we don't get tips, we don't have money. PERIOD. What about our paycheck from the restaurant you ask? Well, since we make only $2.12 an hour, ALL that money is usually taken in taxes-yes we have to claim another percentage of what we make to the IRS. But where does Uncle Sam get that money from? The hourly wage we are paid by the restaurant. It's not unusual to have a ZERO balance on your bi-weekly pay stub. So this means your money is in your tips. No tips means no money. Period. Not everyone uses this job as a means for "fun money". Several of my friends use this as their sole source of income. You should think about that the next time you're leaving a tip. You're determining someone's hourly wage. Could YOU get by on $2.12 an hour?

I'm not posting this to preach, but to inform. I've been amazed to see how many people don't understand that a tip is a server's SOLE source of wages. Please pass this information on to your friends and people who don't understand the importance of tipping. Again, if the service sucked, the tip should reflect the service and you should let the manager know so it can be rectified. Don't set unrealistic expectations for these people that are serving you, because after all they are still people. How much better could YOU do in the same circumstance? Most importantly, DON'T go out if you can't afford to tip. You are literally taking the money out of someone else's pay check when you do.

Let's play catch-up, shall we?

Holy crap. Have you ever had times in your life where it's just sped by, yet you have nothing to show for it? That's how the last couple weeks have been for me. Then when I sit down to account of my adventures (or lack thereof)-I draw a complete blank. So...I will attempt to make this short, sweet, and somewhat interesting for those of you who care to read further.

In August my best friend Amber, Grandma Honey, and I took the girls to see "South Pacific" in Sandy. Amber is doing such a great job teaching her girls to love the theater. We had so much fun dressing in hula skirts (the girls did, anyway), our flower leis, and hibiscus in our hair for the night out. I thought the girls would have a harder time with this show than they did with last year-we saw "Beauty & the Beast"- but aside from a few wiggles they were captivated! Now they go around the house singing "I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair..." Thanks to my little shutterbug best friend I have photos of the evening:

Makala, Mommy, Grandma Honey, and Ashton

Makala, Mommy, Auntie Kristen, and Ashton

Um...what else....ooh! ooh! Kimmy and I went to the State Fair a couple weeks back. We had a BALL!!! She had only been once before and had missed out on so much. The Fair was a family tradition for me growing up--I have especially fond memories of the "Big Yellow Slide". Amazingly enough Kimmy had never been on it, so NATURALLY we had to go!! It was so fun spending the afternoon with her wandering the Fairway, people watching, and eating all different varieties of Fair food!! P.S.-the corn dogs and funnel cakes were our FAVORITE!! :) Kim never sent me HER pictures, you you're stuck with mine: (Why they're HUGE, I don't know...)

Waiting in line on the slide-Kimmy is so cute in her new shades!

Partaking of the Fair food...YUM!!

Last week was my birthday, and that was fun. I'm not one of those people who dread getting older. Actually I look forward to my birthdays. The only thing I dread is the landmarks--you know, the milestones society thinks you should be hitting each year. That aside, I had the special treat of my parents visiting. It's always so fun to have them here. You don't realize how much you need your family until they aren't readily accessible. Unfortunately I don't have pictures-my parents are about as willing for pictures as Scott is--but I do have a couple of what awaited me when I came back to work the next day:

This is the whole reason I didn't come in on my birthday. I was trying to avoid the chaos!! I appreciate the effort of my co-workers though. It did make me feel loved.

Hanging in my chaos--let's just say I didn't get much done that day-there was TOO MUCH going on!! :)

Can you believe she'd never been on the Big Yellow Slide!? I KNOW!! We had fun though!

Last year these were all over the fairgrounds, but this is the only one we saw...

Well, that's about all that's been going on as of late--nothing too exciting as you can see.

Mindless dribble and chronic headaches

So this weekend was an interesting one. We are going into our slow season at Joe's, and I had forgotten how much it sucks. Having six tables for a Saturday night blows. On the bright side the weather was nice so being out on the patio wasn't as hellish as it usually is. Hopefully by the first of October it'll be closed for the season. I'm so over being outside.

Yesterday was my best friend's birthday. Her husband Jason decided to throw her a surprise party. Now if you knew Amber you'd know that surprising her isn't an easy thing. She's the one who hunts for presents and peeks weeks before Christmas. So the fact that Jay pulled it off was an impressive one. It was fun to see everyone and my girls. I couldn't love her kids more if they were my own. She's done such a good job with them. They are turning out great.

The Landon boy--ice cream was FAR more interesting than me.

Miss Makala-She's the oldest

Miss Ashton--my sweet little middle girl

So life is still life-and trust me, the less you know the better-but I am SO over these chronic headaches. Stress sucks, and I just want it to go away!!! The one bright spot is that in a little less than five months I will be in the Happiest Place on Earth with three of my most favoritest people-Kimmy, Sparky, and Branny. Huzzah!

Coloring is cool...

So yesterday I had two things confirmed to me.
1. Despite his short comings (but let's face it, he deals with me on a daily basis, so there really aren't that many), I have the greatest boyfriend in the world. (I actually already knew this, but it's nice to have the reassurance now and then.)
2. No matter what age you are, coloring is just cool.

Since I have had a tough time as of late (don't ask-you DON'T want to know) Scott decided he would try to cheer me up and took me to Joe's for dinner-mostly because they have my favorite dessert in the world-bananas foster. Naturally I ordered crab, and Holls brought out my crab set-up which includes a tutorial/place mat on how to eat crab-don't laugh, you'd be surprised how many people STILL don't get it even after we've explained it. Anyway, I decided I wanted to color while I was waiting for my food. So I grabbed crayons from Branny, and had at it. Of course Scott laughed, but joined in. It's amazing how calming such a simple act is.

Well after dinner I decided that I HAD to have coloring stuff. So Scott humored me and we were off to Wal-Mart for 108 crayola crayons and coloring books. They had a JUMBO Disney Princess book so naturally that helped raise my spirits even more. Scott's good-natured teasing helped too, but he's got no room to talk. He gets excited when "X-Men" cartoon re-runs are on. :) I know he loves that I don't take myself too seriously. Hell, I adore the fact he still watches cartoons!

Well by the time I was done I was tired (I forgot how long it can take!) but felt loads better. Too bad it was gone this morning when I walked back into work. :(

Teach or not to teach...

So after I played on other's Blogs, I decided I wanted to start using my blogspot account again. I normally post blogs on my Myspace, but apparently only fourteen year olds hang out there anymore-huh. Who-da thunk it? Oh well. Hopefully after I play around on here, I will be able to thoroughly pimp this out like so many of my friends have.

Anyway. The reason I'm here. I've finally figured out what I want to do! As most of you might already know, I had thought for a long time that psychology was where I was supposed to be. As fascinating as I find the human mind, I just became more and more disinterested as time passed. But this summer I had an epiphany of sorts, and decided that I want to be a teacher. Now that I've made this decision and started doing the necessary things to get enrolled in school, I am beginning to doubt myself. Don't get me wrong, I feel very good about this choice, and it feels like it just fits, but with any huge decision naturally the fear sets in. Everyone has been so great, and the first words out of their mouths is usually "Wow! You'll make such a great teacher!" But the fear is still there. Is it legit or am I just being silly? I'm almost 30 for cripes sake! I should have had this all figured out a while ago.
